The Government has appointed Md. Abul Kalam Azad as Chief Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives on 12 December, 2017.

Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad was born in 1960 in a noble Muslim family of Razpara Thana under Rajshahi City Corporation. He is the 3rd son of Md. Ibrahim Hossain Khan (retired Additional Police Super) and late Shamsun Nahar. Mr. Azad was graduated in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) in 1982 and earned Master’s in Highway Engineering from Birmingham University, UK in 1999.
Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad joined this organization in 1983 as Assistant Engineer and served various positions including Upazila Engineer, Executive Engineer at field level and Project Director at LGED headquarters. Later on, he served as Superintending Engineering and promoted as Additional Chief Engineer in 2012. Apart from, he attended various seminar and workshop at home and abroad on various issues including Project Management, Governance, Asset Management and Road Research. Currently, he is the chair of the Steering Committee of the Research for Community Access Partnership (ReCAP) Bangladesh Chapter. He is fellow of Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) and member of American Society for Civil Engineers. In addition, he has some publications in professional journals. Mr. Azad is known as a visionary, dedicated and an officer of integrity among his colleagues.
